Australia: residential bond claim?
By Planet Wealth
I used to live with me ex-wife in a rented property which we leased in joint name. I paid the bond but I’m not sure whether I can prove this now. She was not working at that stage. She left about 3 yrs ago and left a note with property agent that she is moving out and questioned them to refund her share of bond money. Since then there is no further communication from her side.
Now I have vacated this property and want to get my bond back. Property manager doesn’t have any issue such as maintenance etc and pleased to do the formalities to request a full refund if I can bring a order from VCAT to release the bond.
I have lodged an application with VCAT and hearing is coming up this week.
To be on secure side, I have a note from property manager that he tried to contact her without any success to present in my case.
What do you guys reckon happens when one person moves out and can’t be located, what happens with bond then?
Please advice.
Thanks in advance.

If you are the only one on the bond form it will be paid solely to you but if it was in both names you still may be able to claim the lot if she does not place in a claim form herself within a certain amount of time.
