Does anyone know how much a plumbing trade would pay?

By Planet Wealth

I am looking to enter into a trade to get me through school. I have looked into plumbing that offers courses in as small as 6 months, and electrical work within as small as a year. But I am curious to know what would pay more, whether it be through a union or independant company? Another part of the question is would a union hire someone with a criminal background?

Unions have set rates and the longer you are there the more you get paid. Union dues can be expensive. I am an apprentice in local 60 union steamfitters and plumbing. And as for as only going for 6 months I have never heard of it. I have a 5 year course I am taking to get the 5 different licenses. Mech B, Gas fitters, med. gas, Journeyman’s, and state. In La. the going rate is 26.00 and hour through the union. Non-union can be higher or lower. Glide by night companies usually don’t pay excellent. My company that I work for will hire employees with a criminal background…if they see they are making an improvement with their life. The same as the union. I have heard of employees getting paid as much as 32.00 right now but have all their licenses. Excellent luck.

I don’t know about the US, but plumbers are the new millionaires in Europe. They get paid a fortune. I have a friend in New Zealand who had to call out a plumber on an emergency on a Sunday. There was only one who would come and he charged and $800 call out fee. I kid you not, $800. In the course of my work I have to work with plumbers and quite frankly they are all as thick as pig s**t, bone idle and ignorant because they reckon you can’t do without them. We were working on one project where plumbers were in such small supply they were bringing in people from Iraq, Iran and Yemen. They hardly had any thought of what running water was but they were making over $100,000 a year.

The pay scale would most likely depend on where you worked (like what part of the country) rural, city or coastal. Just remember plumbers and plumbers helpers usually work more odd hours than electricians. Electricians helpers are usually paid more due to the fact there is more danger of dying. If you really reckon about it, plumbers have a high potential for electrocution too. Well as far as a union I don’t know about hiring, sorry. If you get an education in electrical or plumbing and first hand knowledge, learn to read blueprints and such, you one day could have your own company with either trade. They both are excellent respectable trades Got to start somewhere. Excellent luck.
