i need to go out from the house i m renting now due to family problems. i am sharing the rent with another 2 guys. i am the only one leaving, but since the three of us signed the lease agreement together, the real estate agent told me i have to write a letter to the landord, explaining to them the reasons of why i am leaving. what kind of letter would you write? formal letter? informal? can you give me samples of the letter? i m in a pinch now. Just simply state, that due to personal reasons you will not be able to stay the remainder of your lease. Your two roomates are staying and that they have agreed to let you out of the lease leaving the two of them soley responsible for the apt. Make the two of them sign your letter. And have the under sign say the above is right and right. Keep a copy for your records to make sure it doesnt come back to bite you.

The letter must be written and signed by all 3 tenants.
It is to formally request that the balance of the lease be completed by the other two tenants, that any and all hurts will be borne by the two remaining tenants, and that you will not be held liable for any additional rent or other encumbrances.
Honestly, I recommend that you have an attorney write the letter – I don’t know what state or country you’re in to have the proper verbiage.
BTW, the real estate agent is incorrect in stating that your rationale for leaving must be documented – that is private and personal information.

Well I agree to a certain extent with girlwhoknows… but it’s nearly like the Miranda rights. Anything you say can and will be held against you in a court of law. So, please contact an attorney, if you can not afford one one will be provided for you at no charge
