I do not know where you live or what trading standards is BUT, for all you know HE could have cracked the sump and gear. He should have checked out what he bought ahead of time with a mechanic. Tell him not to call you again.

If you sold it as is then he should be SOL. You are not a dealership and you did not give a warrenty. If she wanted a perfect car she should have bought new. If she didn’t have enough money to buy a car new then I highly doubt she has the money to get an atty and take you to court. I would change my phone number if I were you so she would stop harassing me. If she signed the title then it is her problem now. She should of took the car to a mecanic prior to buy. I wouldn’t worry about it.

I don’t know about the laws in Australia but in Canada, where I live, a private vehicle sale is always "As-Is". There are no guarantees (except of course if the vehicle’s manufacturer warranty is still valid).
It is the buyer’s responsibility to check the condition of the vehicle before finalizing the deal. Once the vehicle is signed over, the car is the buyer’s responsibility.

Hi, a cracked sump is a serious problem, it will leak oil and if not replaced with oil daily the engine will be wrecked. But if your car had a cracked sump I would have though you would have known before you sold it, did it leak oil?
what car is it and how much did you sell it for?
If its a sold as seen item there is no comeback on it, he cant do jack, but if he knows where you live he could possible take revenge, it does happen.
I wouldnt worry about it, tell him it was sold as seen and he should have test drove it.

Here in Australia on any second hand privately sold vehicle it’s up to the buyer to FULLY inspect the vehicle before he pays for it and takes possession. Once the money is in the sellers hands the buyer has NO come back.

It’s called Caveat emptor" … which is Latin for, "Let The Buyer Beware.

If you had a cracked sump and gear should have noticed and the car would drive like crap, not to mention the oil leaking everywhere and the engine would be cooked in no time. The purchaser has obviously run over a kerb or something. It is their responsibility to get an RAC inspection prior to buy. I would advise you to call consumer affairs and get advice on the matter.

What nationality was the purchaser? I have had many foreign people try to tell me there are problems with some cars i have sold, such as most recently I sold a hyundai excel and they were trying to tell me the torque converter had gone in it. It was just a noisey fan belt pulley, which i fixed in front of him.
