The Gothic Influence?
By Planet Wealth
During gothic times in medieval Europe death and disease where an accepted part of everyday life. Evidence of this in the bone church in Albania I believe where the bones of the victims of the black plague where arranged to cover the walls of the church and placed into elaborate configurations around the alter. This church and its bone work are still in use today.
To see a dead body back in the day was of no huge deal, similar to nudity and alike during the time before to religious furver and panic of the times leading up to the inquisition era. Today but to see a dead body is considered distressing and requires restrictions and warnings when shown on TV and alike. We are so shielded and protected from the realities of life that some of us wake up and find ourselves living in a really artificial bubble, and just want out into reality. Anyway out.
Back then death and life walked hand in hand, life was simpler and less complicated by the self imposed problems of today, we seem to have lost something from those times, and what we have gained in return doesn’t not seem to be a honest trade.
Now while I am in no way saying that everything from that time was better, some things undeniable were and we seem to have traded them off for the promise of something better which has yet to arrive.
So my question is, why have we let go of these ‘better ways’ in our modern day life and why is what we have now so much better than before?
Serious answers only please.
Thanks.

You reckon very differently from most people. I don’t know how you can call those better times, but anyway, here is the answer to your question.
In medieval Europe, you were considered a man at 13. You lived to 30 if you were lucky. You could expect to loose half of your children to some disease before they reached puberty. A woman dying in child birth was expected. So basically, the value of human life was cheap. You didn’t dare to truly like someone because that person could be taken from you in an instant.
So what have we gained? Society has a respect for life and we value it. We can like someone without expecting the worse will happen. There is stability in our lives and from that we build our future.
